The Tennessee Legislature called off this week’s committee meetings and legislative schedule due to cold temperatures and the risk of snow and icy conditions on the state’s roads.

“Due to the extreme weather, dangerous temperatures and resulting treacherous road conditions, we have decided to close the Cordell Hull Building and cancel all official legislative meetings for the rest of the week,” a joint statement from House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Lieutenant Gov. Randy McNally said.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation warned motorists to stay home and not drive Monday as Community Relations Officer Rae Anne Bradley said the department helped clear more than 150 vehicles on the roadway in just the Upper Cumberland and Chattanooga areas on Monday.
