‘Strong, Swift, and Precise’: Israel Vows Payback Following Deadly Terrorist Attacks

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel addressing his nation Saturday swore that his government's response to two brutal terrorist attacks in Jerusalem over the weekend would be “strong, swift, and precise.”

The conservative PM of the Likud party also suggested stripping the Arab attackers of their citizenship and government benefits and arming Israeli civilians, according to Breitbart.

Reports indicate that seven people were shot and killed and at least three others were wounded in an attack outside a synagogue in Jerusalem’s Neve Ya’akov neighborhood after Shabbot services on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Fadi Dekidek, a medic at the scene told the Times of Israel, “It was a very serious incident. We saw a woman and four men lying on the street. All had gunshot wounds and no signs of life.”

Among the wounded was a 15-year-old boy in moderate-to-serious condition, a 24-year-old man in moderate condition, and a 60-year-woman, also in moderate condition, the Times reported.

The terrorist was later identified as Alqam Khayri, 21. Shortly after the attack Khayri was shot and killed by Israeli police as he fled.

Breitbart reported that an additional attack occurred outside the old city of Jerusalem when a 13-year-old terrorist fired upon a group of Israelis wounding two people, a father and son, critically. The son, a member of the Israeli military managed to return fire along with another civilian, wounding the attacker.

“Whoever tries to harm us – we will harm him, and those who help him,” Netanyahu told the Israeli people as he convened an emergency meeting of the security cabinet.

“We have already carried out widespread arrests of those who support, assist, and incite terrorism,” he continued. “We are deploying forces. We are reinforcing units and we are doing this in various sectors.”

“We will seal and demolish terrorists’ houses in an expedited fashion, in order to exact an additional price from those who supported terrorism,” Netanyahu stated, adding, “This process already started yesterday and is continuing.”

The Prime Minister also offered his condolences to the families of the victims of both attacks.

The attacks came after several days of violence in the West Bank and Gaza Strip after an Israeli Defense Force raid against a terrorist cell killed nine terrorists with one civilian caught in the crossfire. The IDF told the Times of Israel that the operation Thursday was necessary to prevent an imminent attack. The group had firearms and readied explosives in their possession according to the military.

According to the Times, Palestinian media reported that there were celebrations held in the Gaza Strip and in several cities in the West Bank following the terror attacks. The terrorist group Hamas reportedly praised the attacks.
