If you've been paying attention to the news, then it would come as no surprise that the crime rates in large U.S. cities has skyrocketed in the past few years. A few examples include Chicago, Philadelphia, and Portland, where the homicide rates have increased by 41%, 45%, and 236% respectively. The critical question is: why, and what can be done to curb the increase in violent crime in America?
If you ask CNN or MSNBC, then there's no story here. We should just accept that living in large American cities comes with a certain amount of inherent risk. While that's partially true, the rates of violent crimes we're experiencing are simply unacceptable.
All of these stastitical increases occured after 2019 after Democrats in power chose to defund the police, end cash bail, and allow violent criminals back on the streets with little more than a slap on the wrist. If you're living in a big metropolitan area in America, this should all be cause for grave concern. Do you really trust Democrats to safeguard your familie's well-being while trying to tight rope walk the “equity” line that's become so popular with the liberal elite?
While the issue of policing in the U.S. is a hot button topic to say the least, we can't afford to keep ignoring the rampant violent crimes that continues to plague our big cities. Keep in mind that, while you may enjoy living in a peaceful rural town, a lot of America's economy is reliant on commerce taking place in cities like New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C.
Speaking of D.C., sexual abuse rates are up 100%, motor vehicle theft is up 111%, and homicides have increased by 18% (from an already high homicide rate in the area). It's time we ask ourselves whether the federal government has our best interest at heart if they can't fix the huge mess in their own backyard.
We need to take immediate action to curb violent crime in America before it's too late and our cities become even more uninhabitable than they currently are. Despite what Democrats claim, our growing concerns about public safety are not unfounded. Crime is skyrocketing in major U.S. cities nationwide because Democrats have defunded their police departments, ended cash bail and allowed violent criminals back on our streets to terrorize communities with no more than a slap on the wrist.
Naturally, these dangerous policies have consequences. More than 15 U.S. cities – including Atlanta, Austin, and St. Paul – saw their 2021 homicide numbers break previous records.
According to the Major Cities Chiefs Association’s 2022 crime report, homicides have increased by 41% in Chicago, 45% in Philadelphia, and 236% in Portland since 2019. These alarming statistics should serve as a wake-up call for Democrats to reevaluate their failed agenda. However, in our nation’s capital, pro-criminal policies are the extreme left’s gold standard.
In Washington, D.C., just this year, sexual abuse is up 100%, motor vehicle theft is up 111%, and homicides have increased by 18%. But, just weeks ago, even despite the liberal mayor’s veto, the Washington, D.C. City Council approved legislation to slash prison sentences for the worst offenders, eliminate penalties for a slew of violent crimes, and release scores of dangerous criminals back onto our streets. Sadly, this is the Democrats’ blueprint for America – right in President Joe Biden’s back yard.
