On Friday, a musician and entrepreneur with ties to several Princeton organizations was arrested at his home across the street from the university‘s main gate for one count of possession of child sexual abuse material.

According to nj.com, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said the Internet Crimes Against Children division received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in January that someone in the area had uploaded sexually explicit images of children. Roy Farmer, 53, was subsequently arrested for possession of these images.

Investigators were eventually able to trace the content back to Farmer, who they allege was the uploader. During his arrest, authorities executed a search warrant in his apartment and uncovered “multiple items of evidentiary value.”

Farmer, who also has a property in Florida, is currently being held at the Mercer County jail and is scheduled to appear in Mercer County Superior Court for a detention hearing on Wednesday, where prosecutors will argue that he should not be released until his trial.

According to an article written about Farmer on the Princeton Alumni website, Farmer graduated in 1993, but always kept close ties with the university as a volunteer. He has been involved with numerous groups including the Princeton University Glee Club Foundation, the Princeton Club of Southwest Florida, and the Bisexual, Transgender, Gay, and Lesbian Princeton Alumni Organization. Farmer is also the president of the Queer Princeton Alumni group and founder of NY Philharmonic Pride Alliance.

“Good things happen when you bring Princetonians together,” he said during an interview. “There are wonderfully generous interactions of like-minded people who want to spend their time volunteering, and they are all so passionate about it. This is not traditional networking. This is about connecting interesting people doing interesting things in all areas of our society.”

Farmer is an avid musician, and aside from founding an investment bank that operates in Europe and the Middle East, he has helped organize festivals across the world.
