Police expert says suspect in New York City ‘lasso’ rape likely carried out similar attacks

A police expert suggested that the caught-on-camera assault allegedly conducted by 39-year-old Kashan Parks was not the first time he had done it.

A Bronx police detective told the New York Post, “I definitely think he’s done it before.”

“It was too clean,” the detective explained. Normally, the first time out they make huge mistakes. This was no mistake. This guy was precise.”

On Saturday, Parks was arrested as the suspected man in a viral video that showed a man sneaking up behind a 45-year-old woman, lassoing a belt around her neck, before pulling her between two cars and raping her while she was unconscious.

“There’s probably more victims out there but what happens is they blackout and don’t remember anything,” The source told the Post. “How do you get the belt around the neck perfectly like that?”

The police revealed that Parks had been charged with first-degree rape, assault, strangulation, sex abuse, public lewdness and harassment. They also revealed that he had been arrested five previous times, Pix11 reported.

Authorities noted that the woman regained consciousness and went to seek help at the Lincoln Hospital trauma center about four blocks from where the assault took place. They said she knew her attacker, and that she didn't report the assault immediately.

The CEO of Barrier Free Living, Cynthia Amadeo praised the woman's actions. She told the outlet, “To go to the hospital, and tell the police, and seek out resources for herself.”

“That was an amazing thing that she was able to do for herself,” she noted. “This person sought help, this person spoke up,”

The incident comes as there was an increase in rape incidents in the area during April compared to last year. There have also been 511 rapes reported in the city so far in 2024, which is the same as this point in 2023.
