On Saturday night, Patrick Mahomes Sr., 53, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, for the third time on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
According to the Daily Mail, Mahones previously served 40 days during weekends from his last arrest in 2019.
The arrest comes as his son Patrick Mahomes jr, is set to play in Super Bowl 58 next Sunday, with a chance to earn his 3rd ring in seven seasons.
In an interview with CNN on Thursday, Mahomes Sr. praised his son's work ethic and said he was planning on being in attendance for the game against the San Fransisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
“To compete at the highest level is something that is rare and very special. For him to have the amount of success that he’s had this early on in his career is just surreal,” he said. “It’s kind of crazy. I really haven’t ever seen anything like him. I’ve been around a lot of great athletes – in (Alex Rodriguez) and Rickey Henderson and all these guys – but to be at the top of your game so quickly and continue to repeat it year after year, it just makes it that much more special.”
According to Bleacher Report, Mahomes Sr was charged with public intoxication in 2016 during a football game between TCU and Texas Tech. Prior to that, he faced DUI charges in 1994 when he got into a one-car accident.
