On Wednesday, Maryland authorities recovered the bodies of two victims from the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

The bodies were located around 10 am inside a trapped vehicle that had been submerged underwater and were pronounced dead at the scene. The bridge collapsed on Monday after one of its support beams had been hit by a cargo ship, which resulted in individuals and vehicles plunging to their deaths.

An official with Maryland State Police made the tragic announcement during a press conference and said that authorities had “moved from search and rescue to search and recovery.”

“The Maryland State Police, along with the underwater recovery teams supported by state, local, and federal partners,  made a tragic finding. Shortly before 10 am, divers located a red pickup truck submerged in approximately 25 feet of water in the area of the middle span of the bridge,” the official said.

“Divers recovered two victims of this tragedy trapped within the vehicle,” he said.

The victims were identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, of Baltimore, and Dorlin Ranial Castillo Cabrera, 26, of Dundalk.

Police said their families were notified about the discovery before the press conference.
