In an interview with Sage Steele, independent candidate for president Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that women should be able to get abortions even up to the point of birth. As they discussed the issue, Steele asked if Kennedy believes abortion should be legal “even if it's full term.”

“Even if it's full term,” Kennedy said. He couched his comments within the framework of medical freedom and bodily autonomy. He repeatedly said that he does not trust the state to make these decisions.

“Every abortion is a tragedy,” Kennedy said at the beginning of the conversation on the issue. “Many of them leave permanent trauma on a woman. “I don't trust the state and I think we need to trust the woman,” he said.

“Even if it's full term,” Steele asked.

“Even if it's full term,” Kennedy said.

In a Politico article in August 2023, Kennedy's campaign said Kennedy “does not support legislation banning abortion.
