Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) and 10 other GOP lawmakers spoke outside of the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Tuesday to announce their support of a bill forbidding parents from giving their minor children gender transition surgeries.
The bill, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, would consider gender surgeries a felony with a penalty of up to 25 years in prison or a maximum fine of $250,000. Any doctor who prescribe puberty blockers or hormones to “transgender youth” would also be facing up to 25 years in prison.
The bill has 35 Republican sponsors. Ten of the sponsors were at the event.
“Protecting children from … being fast-tracked into permanent harm to their bodies before they’re old enough to vote, get a tattoo, buy tobacco, join the military, often drive a car, and go see an R-rated movie,” Greene said.
“This [gender-affirming care for minors] should never happen in the United States of America. As a matter of fact, it should never happen anywhere in the world,” she continued. “But there’s an ideology that is sexualizing children and pushing this among the most innocent kids, the most vulnerable, and all of our society. And it has to end.”
“When it comes to ‘gender-affirming care,’ which is really child abuse, this is actually an assault and it’s child abuse. This practice should never happen. It’s so disgusting and appalling…this needs to be illegal,” Greene said during an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson in August.
“The bill clearly lays out that no minor who underwent surgeries, or pharmaceutical intervention for the purpose of gender transition, would be held liable, instead saying that the minor would have recourse ‘against each person who performed the gender affirming care,” The Post Millennial reported.
The radical left, of course, was not happy with the bill…
“All people, including transgender young people, deserve access to health care that helps them live safe and healthy lives,” executive director of an advocacy group for gender-affirming care, Dr. Kellan E. Baker, said in a statement.
“There’s a lot of misinformation out there, but the reality is that the only form of gender-affirming care for children is social support that helps kids understand and explore their gender as they grow up. Bills attacking health-care providers and patients are dangerous political stunts,” Baker added.
Rational people stand against these heinous practices.
