‘Men’s voices matter’: Kanye West opens up about fighting to have a say in his children’s upbringing

In a preview of an interview that aired on Thursday’s episode of Good Morning America, Kanye West said that he had to ‘fight for his voice' in his four children’s lives.

The 45-year-old rapper and fashion designer said that while he now has a voice in parenting his children, he had to “fight” for it, noting that men shouldn’t have to.

“I do have a voice but I had to fight for it. It hurts you when you have to scream about what your kids are wearing As a dad and as a Christian. And I have a right to have a voice on what my kids are wearing, what they're watching, what they're eating,” said West.

“I have a platform where I get to say what so many dads can't say out loud,” he added. “I’m their dad. It has to be co-parenting. It's not up to only the woman. Like, men have a choice also. Men's voices matter.”

The comments come weeks after the star accused his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and steaming giant Hulu of railroading him in regards to choosing where their kids go to school, according to the Daily Mail.

West compared himself to a sperm donor without a say in his children’s lives and expressed anger over the fact that his kids were attending a private school in Los Angeles instead of his Donda Academy, which was set up in honor of his late mother.

“I want my kids to go to Donda and I have to fight for a say-so,” said West.

Recent TikTok videos though show his two oldest children, nine-year-old North and six-year-old Saint, singing and dancing with students and teachers at the school.

In the interview, which airs in full on Thursday night, West also revealed that as he and Kardashian were arguing over their children, he was also battling legal challenges with Adidas and Gap over the creative control of his Yeezy products.

“These little nuances… there were parallels at Gap, at Adidas, and in my home. It was kind of a disregard for the voice I have in something I co-created. I co-created the children, I co-created the product at Gap and I co-created the product at Adidas,” he said.

During the interview, West also apologized to Kardashian, saying that he never meant to cause her stress. The two finalized their divorce in June after splitting earlier this year.

“This is the mother of my children, and I apologize for any stress that I have caused, even in my frustration, because God calls me to be stronger. I need this person to be less stressed and of the best, sound mind and as calm as possible to be able to raise those children at the end of the day,” he said.
