Humiliated Don Lemon Desperately Tries to Save Face After CNN Axes His Primetime Show

CNN commentator Don Lemon, host of “Don Lemon Tonight,” responded to viewers on his Thursday night show about his recent move to a morning time slot for the network claiming that it was not a “demotion.”

“I was presented with an opportunity that I can’t pass up at this network,” Lemon began adding that new CNN CEO Chris Licht is behind the restructuring: “And we have a new boss who is a morning show impresario, and he wants a morning show that will kick off the editorial direction of the network every single day, and I am honored that he would ask me to do it.”

Under Licht’s leadership, the network has seen tremendous change with long-time commentators such as Brian Stelter being booted from the network. The removal of Lemon’s primetime show is likely yet another instance of the network trying to rebrand itself from the leftist propaganda network that it has been for the past few years.

“And for all of those who are out there saying, oh, he moved me, and without my — he asked me and I said yes,” the host continued. “I could have said no. This is my show. I have a contract for this show. I decided that I would take him up on that and take this journey with him.”

“This is not someone moving me. And by the way, this is not someone saying, ‘You must move to the Right, Don Lemon. You must not be so — give so much of your perspective.’” he explained, adding, “None of that has happened. All of that is fodder for Twitter, which is not real. So stop it. I was not demoted, none of that.”

Recently, leftist activists have called out CNN for their reporting and the fact that they are not going with their narrative: “CNN’s Jake Tapper just let a reporter say Ron DeSantis’ move will cause “anguish” for Democrats & that it “checks a lot of boxes” for his political campaign,” wrote activist Dash Dobrofsky, adding, “CNN is whitewashing human trafficking. It’s a crime. It’s a crime. It’s a crime. Call it for what it is. CNN is sickening.”

These types of attacks showcase that CNN will face considerable backlash as they attempt to restructure their reporting and not solely be a mouthpiece for Democrats. Don Lemon stated that his new show will be a welcomed change that could lead to new opportunities for the network.

“This is an opportunity. This is a promotion,” Lemon explained. “This is an opportunity for me to create something around me and I get to work with two great ladies who you know.”

“Poppy Harlow who I’ve known for more than a decade, I went to her wedding in Slovenia, I know her children, I know her husband,” he concluded by emphasizing his close relationship with his new co-hosts. “And Kaitlin Collins, same thing, we’ve been friends since Kaitlin has been at the network.”

Whether or not CNN’s new approach will play out well for viewers in their attempt to present a more balanced approach. The new CNN CEO has stated that he doesn’t want CNN to be another “advocacy network” and instead focus on the facts. The changes to the network are likely an attempt to follow through on that vision, but it’s unknown whether or not CNN will recover its reputation after years of leftist advocacy.
