How bad did AOC mess up this time?

At the risk of sounding overly-critical of the New York Congresswoman, it seems that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) splurged a bit too much at the Met Gala in 2021. During her appearance at the Met Gala, in which she wore her now-infamous “Tax the Rich” dress, it appears that AOC may have accepted “impermissable gifts” that violated federal law.

The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) said, “the Board recommends that the Committee further review the above allegation concerning Rep. Ocasio-Cortez because there is substantial reason to believe that she accepted impermissable gifts associated with her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021”. In laymen's terms, AOC could be in huge trouble with the Ethics Committee for letting the Met Gala give her gifts that a Member of Congress has no business accepting.

This is, excuse the pun, rich coming from a Congresswoman who has branded herself as the antithesis to the American upper class. AOC has been on the record numerous times criticizing the rich for their “hording of resources” as well as calling for measures to negate income inequality.

The veracity of these allegations remains to be seen, but the situation is serious enough to warrant an investigation by the Ethics Committee. If the investigation determines that her accepting gifts violated federal law, we could very well see AOC testify before the Committee, and we could even be treated to AOC being ousted from office in the near future.

Wouldn't it be great if the most popular opponent of the rich and famous was booted from the House of Representatives because she accepted gratuitous gifts from… the rich and famous? There is “substantial reason to believe” that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) accepted “impermissible gifts” in connection to her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021, according to a Thursday report from the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE).

The OCE Board voted unanimously to recommend further investigation into the matter as Ocasio-Cortez “may have violated House rules, standards of conduct, and federal law,” according to the report.

“The Board recommends that the Committee further review the above allegation concerning Rep. Ocasio-Cortez because there is substantial reason to believe that she accepted impermissible gifts associated with her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021,” the report says.
