Hollywood ‘Star’ Blames “Straight People” for Woke Movie Absolutely Bombing at the Box Office

Universal Studio's romantic comedy “Bros”- centered around two gay main characters- lost big league at the box offices this weekend, in a massively unexpected turn of events. The failure of “Bros” is possibly attributable to the American public's rejection of wokeness — particularly in comedy. Woke comedians are not funny, and there is no need to reinvent the tried and true romantic comedy genre, which had fallen out of favor among major film studios since the late 2000s.

The movie's website offers the following synopsis:

“This fall, Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They're both very busy.”

While the film was projected to make roughly $8 to $10 million on opening weekend, it ended up grossing a measly $4.8 million.

As the New York Times reports:

“‘Bros,' the first gay romantic comedy from a major studio, arrived to an estimated $4.8 million in ticket sales in the United States and Canada, about 40 percent less than the low end of prerelease analyst expectations. Universal Pictures booked “Bros” onto 3,350 screens and spent an estimated $30 million to $40 million to promote it. ‘Bros,' starring Luke Macfarlane and Billy Eichner, who also co-wrote the script, cost roughly $22 million to make. It received mostly positive reviews.”

That “Bros” performed so badly while being so warmly received by critics is indicative of the disconnect between the American public and the woke intelligentsia. Americans are not woke. And yet time and time again, Hollywood producers and film critics are miscalculating how warm Americans are to their woke ideals.  These producers went woke, and now they are going broke.

‘Bros' star Billy Eichner blames the film's box office flop on, you guessed it, straight people:

“That’s just the world we live in, unfortunately. Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros. And that’s disappointing but it is what it is.”

Rather than take responsibility for the film's monumental failure, he blames heterosexuals and “certain parts of the country” — whatever that means. We expect nothing less from the Wokesters over at Hollywood.
