Do you remember at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when people were being removed from grocery stores and publicly shamed for refusing to wear face masks? According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, masking up was only about 10% effective for preventing the spread of the Coronavirus.
Appearing on CNN's This Morning with anchor Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday, Dr. Fauci admitted that, “from a public health standpoint… the effect can only be marginal, and as we mentioned it was 10-13 percent [effective] or so.” That means that all of that fuss about not masking up and “protecting your loved ones” was completely meaningless. The bottom line is that choosing to wear a facial mask did little to prevent the spread of the virus, and our feelings about the government using the pandemic as an avenue to grab more control from the people were warranted.
When asked if instituting mask mandates for activities like traveling or attending group events was a mistake, Fauci was quick to defend his position. When defending his controversial (and unfounded) position that the mask mandates were necessary, Fauci admitted that, “people being told what to do often has the opposite effect.”
Maybe the reason many Americans didn't trust Fauci is due to his constant shifting of opinions on what to do to combat the spread of the Coronavirus. For instance, in 2022 Fauci actually admitted that mask mandates for travel were rooted in public health officials wanting to maintain as much power as possible.
It seems that the American public has moved on from the coronavirus, but we won't be quick to forget that the federal government would do everything in their power to grab more power for themselves at the expense of all of us. If you'd like to read more about Fauci's disastrous interview with CNN, please read this article from The Daily Caller. An excerpt of the article has been copied below:
“In hindsight, though, when you look at this, do you think the mask mandates were a mistake?” Collins asked.
“You know, Kaitlan, I don’t want to say a mistake,” he answered. “But I think we need to remember next time we’re confronted with this that when you have a situation when there’s doubt in the minds of some people about whether something works or not, we better try to reach out and be a better explainer on why we feel these things are important, because whenever, and particularly in our country where there are free spirit, which we all embrace, people being told what to do often has the opposite effect. That’s what I was referring to in that interview.”
Fauci often shifted his positions on mandates throughout the pandemic. He accused states of lifting the mandates of inviting another surge of the virus, and continuously urged children in schools to be masked. In June 2022, he admitted that mask mandates for travel mandate were about public health officials maintaining as much power as possible.
