BREAKING: Facebook could lift Trump’s suspension by 2023

Former President Donald Trump could have his Facebook ban lifted in 2023, Nick Clegg of Meta Platforms said at an event in Washington, DC.

According to Gina Chon of Semafor Media, Clegg is speaking with experts to assess whether the move should be made. It's the first time Clegg, who is president of global affairs and is in charge of deciding whether to lift the limit, has publicly discussed his thinking.

Facebook announced in January of last year that it would block Trump from its platforms until January 20, the day Biden was set to be sworn in. That ban has remained in place ever since.

“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete,” Zuckerberg wrote.

That decision came after the events of January 6.
