The Department of Defense (DoD) has just announced that they are sending $2.1 billion to Ukraine in the form of a “new security assistance package.” The large package includes “critical air defense and ammunition capabilities,” which is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

The following are the capabilities comprised within the support package:

  • Additional munitions for Patriot air defense systems;
  • HAWK air defense systems and missiles;
  • 105mm and 203mm artillery rounds;
  • Puma Unmanned Aerial Systems;
  • Laser-guided rocket system munitions;
  • Support for training, maintenance, and sustainment activities.

The announcement stated that the “United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs and longer-term security assistance requirements.”

At the time of this report, the US alone has provided more than $75 billion of support to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This does not include the support the Eastern European country has received from other allied nations.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
