$2 Billion Price Tag: New York City Mayor Eric Adams Begs For Help From Federal Government As City Is Overwhelmed By Illegal Migrants

On Sunday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) visited El Paso, Texas where he called upon the federal government to do more to stem the flow of migrants to his city which is set to cost $2 billion in taxpayer money.

“We expect more from our national leaders to address this in a real way,” Adams said during his trip, adding in a radio interview that it would cost billions. “Our price tag could be anywhere from $1.5 to $2 billion. That’s the price tag that we are facing.”

“We have to ask ourselves, where we [were] already dealing with a potential $5, $6 billion budget deficit in the out-years,” Adams continued. “Where does that money come from?”

“That money comes from our schools. It comes from our public safety, our hospitals, our infrastructure, our ACS services, those are our tax dollars that it’s coming from and we got to see an impact in every service we have in the city,” said Adams.

“And that is just inhumane on the part of the national government,” he stated in reference to President Biden's open border policies, per the New York Post. “And I really believe it’s irresponsible, that we have not had a real national response to what’s happening at our border,”

Last week, the mayor of the Big Apple explained that his city is at a breaking point and that the record-setting number of migrants entering the metroplex is too much for New Yorkers to handle, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer.

‘AT OUR BREAKING POINT': SANCTUARY NEW YORK CITY MAYOR ERIC ADAMS OVERWHELMED BY MIGRANTS, CALLS ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO INTERVENE

“We are at our breaking point. Based off our projections, we anticipate being unable to continue sheltering arriving asylum seekers on our own and have submitted an emergency mutual aid request to the State of New York beginning this weekend,” he said in a statement. “This type of request, reserved only for dire emergencies, asks the state for support to shelter arriving asylum seekers as the city faces an immediate need for additional capacity.”

“On that day, I said we would surpass the highest number of people in recorded history in our city’s shelter system and that every day after we would set a new record,” Adams explained. “We are now seeing more people arrive than we have ever seen — averaging over 400 people each day this last week, with 835 asylum seekers arriving on one single day alone, the largest single-day arrival we’ve seen to date. All this is pushing New York City to the brink.”

Last week alone, the city reportedly brought in 3,100 migrants, according to Fox News.

In response to the mayor's calls for help from El Paso, New York City Comptroller Brad Lander wrote on Twitter that Adams is reinforcing a “harmful narrative.”

“There are many ways to demand the help we need from Washington & Albany,” he wrote. “But the Mayor’s trip to Texas does little to deliver the $$ NYC needs to provide shelter & services. Instead, it risks reinforcing a harmful narrative that new immigrants themselves are a problem.”

As the Biden administration continues to ignore Mayor Adams' pleas, the people of New York suffer like the millions of Americans who are suffering in border states across the country. As the migrant crisis worsens with no sign of relief from the federal government, every state has become a border state.
